Know your Lineage: Abageyo of the Bagesera clan chronicles the origin of the Abageyo from their great ancestor Kageyo. Born around 1716 AD in Gisaka, Bugesera district of present day Republic of Rwanda, it narrates Kageyo’s migration from Gisaka to Kisoro district in Uganda; and the further migrations of the Abageyo within the country. It then presents the Abageyo’s ancestral family tree originating from Kimenyi to Bukumura. From Bukumura, three family trees are described, namely: Nyunga, Semalora and Rubimbura. It highlights some prominent Abageyo and their relatives who have distinguished themselves in community work, politics, diplomacy and other public service. It finally presents some customs and cultural practices of the Bagesera. This publication contains the most up to date family tree of the Abageyo; in future publications, the family tree will continue to be updated.
